Sony Xperia Z3 Approved In China, Specifications Revealed
China has a certification called TENAA, which is equivalent to the FCC certification, and apparently, the Sony Xperia Z3 has managed to pass it. It looks like Sony is planning on releasing two versions of the device, one being the standard version while the other one being a dual SIM version. The two models even go by different model names in China, as the single SIM version is referred to as the L55T and the dual SIM model is L55U.
The dual SIM capabilities of the device came as a surprise for everybody, as none of the many leaked specifications across the web included this feature, and neither did its predecessor have dual SIM support, therefore no speculation of such feature was made. The dual SIM function is something highly requested in China, as it seems it is one of the countries where dual SIM supporting smartphones are very popular.
The recently leaked images and the information available on the TENAA website give us more details about the upcoming device. As the leaked images show, the Sony Xperia Z3 will display a very slim look, as its components will be stored in a pretty compact body. According to the TENAA website, the Xperia Z3 will feature multiple similarities to the already available Sony Xperia Z2.
Usually, Sony released Xperia devices in black, white and a special purple version. It seems like the purple variant has been replaced by an Amber, or golden color variant. It isn’t known at the time if Sony will still release the purple version, but the golden/ amber version will be available either way.
The device’s color will cover up a pretty slim body, with only 7.4 mm in thickness and a total weight of 158 grams. These make the Xperia Z3 lighter and thinner device than its predecessor, the Xperia Z2, which is 8.2 mm thick and comes as heavy as 163 grams. The body of the device will wrap around a pretty large 5.2 inch display, capable of a 1080p resolution and using the IPS LCD technology.
Digging deeper for specifications, we find that the Xperia Z3 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz. The unit represents an improvement when compared to the processor found in the previous Sony Xperia installment, the Z2, which has a 2.3 GHz unit. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor was also rumored for the upcoming Xperia Z3. Even with the 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801, the device packs quite a punch, especially when you combine its processing power with the included 3 GB of RAM. For internal memory, you will have 16GB of original storage space, but if you feel like it’s not enough for you, Sony has added the possibility of expanding on the original storage by using a microSD card.
A great camera will be featured on the rear of the Sony Xperia Z2, packing 20.7 MP, while the front facing lens will also have 2 MP of its own.
The IFA event taking place on September 3 is where Sony will presumably launch their Xperia Z3 device, which will have a version supporting regular GSM/LTE networks, while the version approved by the TENAA will feature support for Chinese networks.
