Update to Android 4.3 Jelly bean on Samsung Galaxy s4 I9505
This update is not an official one. It’s somewhat like an Windows 8.1 preview release except it’s not from the official source.
Don’t try this with the other models of Samsung galaxy S4, this is only for SGS4 I9505.
This is a leaked custom Rom about 380 MB that cannot be flashed with Odin but installed using custom recovery or ClockWorkMod (CWM)
(This was leaked by an XDA forums member to SAMMobile, who put this all together)
What’s new with Android 4.3
Following is a quick demonstration video by PhoneArena on this update,
First things first
1> Download and install Samsung kies from here. It’s through which you update your Samsung galaxy s4 I9505 or any Samsung device’s firmware.
2> Try it first on your other Samsung or other devices first, to understand installing custom ROM, If you have never done it before. I wouldn’t recommend doing on your S4 first. As any problem will have an irreversible actions on your phone. So do it only if you are so sure of what you know you are doing.
3> What you are about to do is flash your ROM. Don’t try this with the other models of Samsung galaxy S4, this is only for SGS4 I9505. Odin is one of the popular third party ROM flashing tool. But Odin is of no use with this update, so before you jump in to flash it with Odin, better don’t. If you are planning anyway to use Odin to do it, despite knowing that you are solely responsible for your actions and Knolpad is not responsible for your data loss, please be assure that this might also void your warranty if anything goes wrong. But flashing the ROM doesn’t void your warranty. Again Knolpad is not responsible for any thing you do that sabotages your data or warranty,
4> Also installing this ROM will remove all your phone contacts, apps everything, so it’s necessary that you take a backup. Because you will be doing a Wipe data and factory reset to install it.
With that out of the way, lets take a look at how to get the Android 4.3, a jelly bean update on your galaxy s4 I9505.
Preparing your device before actually installing
This would be the first step before actually installing Android 4.3.
1> Backup. backup, backup. Backup all your data first. You can do that by connecting your device to your computer and copying all the folders. Save it in a place where you are likely to remember. Saving it on SD card alone is not recommended. If you are interested in taking a full image backup, read this.
2> Secondly, make sure the devices battery is fully charged. You don’t want the battery to die quickly in the middle of flashing the custom Android 4.3 ROM.
3> Now, to know what’s going on behind the scenes when you are installing, enable USB debugging mode on your phone. To do that, navigate to Menu > Settings > Applications > Development and then check the ‘USB Debugging’ .
Downloading and Installing the custom ROM
1> Download the custom Jelly Bean 4.3 leaked ROM files:
> Get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Odexed port zip from HERE. (384 MB)
> Get the Android 4.3 Jelly bean Deodexed port zip from HERE. (384 MB)
– download either file you want and don’t unzip the contents. I would go with the Deodexed.
2> Connect your Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 to your computer, yes, with a USB cable.
3> Copy the downloaded ROM zipped file to your SDCARD. Just copying on the main folder will do.
4> Unplug the device from computer.
5> Turn the power off on your SGS4 I9505.
6> Now boot the device into custom recovery mode. To do that, Press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons simultaneously. Release the button when you start seeing a recovery mode screen.
7> While you are in the recovery mode, take a backup even if you took one already. See the ‘backup and restore’ option? Select it. This will take a full image backup of your phone, also known as the NANDROID backup. Only move on to next step after completing this one.
8> Now, select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’. Confirm it.
9> Next, select ‘install zip from sdcard’ and then ‘choose zip from SDcard’. Find the Android 4.3 Android-4.3-I9505GUEUBMFP-Deodexed-I9505.zip file. Or Odexed if you have downloaded Odexed and copied that to your phone.
10> Next, confirm the installation for it to begin installing. The installation time is about 2-5 minutes.
11> Once the installation is complete, you are taken to the recovery screen, the screen that your phone booted into.
12> Now the work is done, tap to select the “reboot system now”. The phone would reboot now after a couple of minutes.
13> The phone would boot like when you first bought it, enter Google account details and you are now using Android 4.3 Jelly bean.
